Families invited to help shape nature program

4 June 2026

Families are invited to help design a new nature-based program to support children and community healing after the January fires. Anyone interested can join the conversation by emailing a.ricci@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

No commitment is needed—just an expression of interest.

The program is a partnership between MASC Playgroup and Harcourt Valley Landcare. It aims to help families connect with nature, process grief, and find hope as the land recovers. Organisers want children to learn that it’s okay to feel loss, and to also notice signs of regrowth and wonder.

The project is led by Lucinda Fraser, an art therapist and social worker, and Aurora Ricci, a playgroup facilitator specialising in nature-based learning. Both are passionate about supporting wellbeing through connection to Country, creativity, and community.

The plan includes six sessions over a year, guided by the Djaara seasonal calendar. Each session will include simple activities like nature walks, drawing, music, and group reflection. Families will also receive a booklet to record their experiences.

Organisers hope to involve older children from the Little Habitat Heroes group to help guide younger participants and care for the land.

The program is still being shaped, and community input is key. Anyone who would like to take part, share ideas, or support the project is encouraged to get in touch.
