We're spreading the word about all the changes we are making locally to tackle climate change together.

People in Mount Alexander Shire have a proud and long history of creating amazing sustainability projects, and we want to share those stories far and wide. During April, we're blitzing print, radio and socials with all the ways Council and our community are taking action on climate change so we can all learn from each other.

Take a look at the stories we've collected so far, or contribute a story of your own and tell us how you're a climate change-maker!

We want you to let us know about any and all of the ways you're taking action on climate change in Mount Alexander Shire.

  • Is your school water-wise?
  • Does your event have a 'no-waste' policy?
  • How do you reuse, recycle and repair?
  • Have you changed your home to respond to climate change?

Whatever you're doing - big or small - let us know!

All you need is a brief description of what you are doing and a photo (if possible.)

Climate action is in everything we do.

Our climate change strategy and climate change strategy action plan detail all the ways we’re embedding climate action into the way we work.

Some of those actions include:

  • We’ve committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2025
  • Achieved 100% renewable electricity for Council operations
  • Upgraded street lights to low-energy LEDs across the shire
  • Started the transition to an electric fleet
  • Capped the local Castlemaine landfill
  • Advocated for an increase in energy efficient standards for new homes through the National Construction Code
  • Participating in the Elevating Environmentally Sustainable Development Targets Planning Policy.

We’ve got a lot more to share about the ways we’re tackling climate change – stay tuned!
