Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. In doing so, we committed to reaching zero-net emissions for Council operations by 2025.

Our Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality 2020-2025 and 2022 Progress Report outline our approach to this work, and what we’ve achieved to date, including:

• Electricity for Council operations is sourced from 100% renewable wind power
• Almost all street lights have been upgraded to low-energy LEDs
• We've purchased our first electric vehicle which marks the beginning of our transition to a fully electric fleet.

Council works alongside the Wararack Initiatives, a collaborative community project which seeks to collectively build and oversee implementation of a Community Climate Transition Plan that will help reach the goal of zero-net community emissions by 2030.

The Strategy will provide strategic direction to enable Council to focus and prioritise its efforts on emissions reduction and adaptation within its own operations and the broader community.

It will identify ways in which Council can best collaborate with the community on climate-focused outcomes.

We recognise there are many community initiatives focused on climate change within the Shire, and seek to engage broadly to understand the full scope of climate action and aspirations.

The Strategy will outline our approach, rather than specific actions.

An accompanying first-year implementation plan will be produced, and priority projects will be identified to be developed to grant-ready stage.
