What we heard

Thank you to everyone who took part in shaping our Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–2029.

Community engagement is now closed, and all feedback gathered throughout the consultation period has been collated and analysed. We are now releasing the Community Engagement Summary, which outlines the key themes, insights and priorities shared by our community and informed Council decision-making in December 2025.

This Community Engagement summary will continue to inform how we implement the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026-2029.

Background

Every four years, under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Victorian Councils must prepare a plan outlining how it will manage dogs and cats within its municipal boundaries.

The DAMP identifies how the Shire will:

  • Help pets, pet owners and the general community to live harmoniously together
  • Protect the environment and local wildlife from the negative impacts of dogs and cats
  • Balance the needs of those who own pets with those who do not
  • Promote responsible pet ownership
  • Improve the experience of animal ownership
