Local artist to design our waste trucks

We have invited local artists the opportunity to design digital artwork for our waste trucks. The brief is to explore the sustainability theme of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and waste minimisation.

The Eco Art Truck Project is designed to build local skills in creating public art, and provide the opportunity to design a large-scale artwork without the pressure of managing suppliers or fabrication. The digital art can be delivered in a wide range of formats including graphic, photographic and/or mixed-media designs.

The selected artist will receive $3,500 as a fee for their work.

Council is engaging on a new waste collection service, Cleanaway, which presents the opportunity to support local artists to can create artwork for 3 - 4 new kerbside collection vehicles.

Submitting an application form does not guarantee selection in the Eco Art Trucks project.

You need to provide 4-6 images of previous works (preferably that demonstrate your skills in creating artwork in digital formats), your artist resume and your reasons for applying.

The artist fee of $3,500 includes one digital design with up to three rounds of changes, a written artist statement of 100 words, plus one five-minute artist talk or video interview.

Council will work with its waste services contractors to have your digital artwork printed by a specialist signage company and then installed on the sides of the truck. This will not be at any cost to the artist.

We have provided detailed artwork specifications in the Artist Brief, please review these to be sure you can meet requirements.

The printed artwork is expected to be on display from December 2024 to December 2027. This is subject to change in the event that the vehicle is damaged, repaired or replaced during this service period.
