1 November 2024

Mount Alexander Shire Council and local research and learning hub Castlemaine Institute have been recognised with a national award at the recent Economic Development Australia conference.

They received the Economic Development Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Award for their collaboration on Council’s new Economic Development Strategy.

The strategy was informed by feedback from First Nations community and local businesses and shire residents, and is focused on building a wellbeing economy; one that benefits local people, the local area and the environment.

“The strategy provides a framework for Council to support projects and initiatives that benefit everyone’s wellbeing, with a focus on inclusion, sustainability, and resilience,” said Ms Tinkler.

The recognition through this award highlights the innovative approach of both Council and Castlemaine Institute, aligning with Mount Alexander Shire Council’s vision of a stronger local economy that improves community wellbeing and respects nature.
