Key project information
11 Hospital Street, Maldon
The park has 10 cabins, 25 powered sites and 14 unpowered sites.
The park is on Crown land, which requires that stays are limited to no more than 180 days in a year and no more than 59 consecutive nights.
Council is the committee of management of the land on which the caravan park is located. In 2023, Council assumed management of the caravan park and appointed caretakers to oversee daily operations.
Since then, we have carried out general maintenance and repairs.
We are taking this opportunity to review future potential use of the site.Council owns and manages a number of property assets across the shire. These sites support the delivery of a wide range of services in the community.
We regularly undertake assessment and review of our assets to ensure they remain relevant and are fit for purpose. Community consultation is part of this process.
Community feedback received by Council will be compiled in a report, and presented to Councillors for consideration and decision-making in mid-2025.
Input from the community is one part of the decision-making process. The report will also include information on planning requirements, operational costs associated with running and maintaining the park, and any other relevant considerations.
Mount Alexander Shire Councillors will make the final decision on whether or not Council continues to manage the caravan park.
Closure of the caravan park to repurpose the land for another use is a possible option that we are considering. The park will remain open in the meantime.
Yes.
The process of exploring options for the future of the Maldon Caravan Park is anticipated to continue through 2025.
Councillors will consider the future of the park at a Council meeting. From there, we will know the future of the park.
Implementing any decision could take several years. When Councillors decide on the future of the park, it will be both on the long-term use of land and short-term operation of the Maldon Caravan Park.
Council will continue to provide updates to the community on the process through this project page.
We would need agreement from the State Government and other parties to use the land for another purpose. This process could take many years. Council will decide whether or not to continue to operate the park while this process is underway.
