New public artwork unveiled in Newstead
Have you seen the stunning new public artwork outside the supermarket and bakery in Newstead?
The artwork features a range of designs sandblasted in stone discs, and represents the area’s flora and fauna, First Nations People, art and culture, community, and history.
Artists Uncle Rick Nelson, Roger McKindley, Julie Patey, Carol Porter, Chrisanne Blennerhassett and Bob Clutterbuck are to thank for their original and inspiring designs.
Stop by the corner of Lyons and Panmure Streets in Newstead and take a look at the new artwork.
This project is a collaboration between Council and the Newstead community, and is a great example of the good things that can happen when Council and the community work together.
Background
As part of our Small Town Streetscapes Plan, we looked to highlight the ‘story’ of Newstead through the development of a new, interpretive feature for the town.
Based on community feedback, the location was decided as in front of the Newstead Friendly Grocer / Bakery.
Local community members partnered with Council to collaborate on the design and production processes.
