Camp Reserve update

4 April 2024

Thank you for your ongoing interest in the Camp Reserve redevelopment project.

Progress

Council officers are continuing to prepare all documentation required for a planning permit to develop a new pavilion and netball/multipurpose courts at Camp Reserve.

Technical reports are underway with regards to the site’s acoustics, arboriculture, flood and bushfire risk, heritage and cultural heritage, geotechnical and feature surveys and traffic management. These reports require experts onsite, so you will continue to see contractors at Camp Reserve conducting studies. The reports being conducted also include an archaeological investigation, which will take place over the coming months.

As highlighted in our February update, due to results from preliminary investigations into the trees on the southwest side of Camp Reserve, mulch and temporary fencing has been installed as a safety measure to restrict access under the trees. The fencing will temporarily be removed between 24-26 April. The area under the trees will remain restricted and the fence will be re-instated after Anzac Day. Council thanks residents and visitors to the reserve for their understanding and flexibility - as ever, public safety is a top priority.

Change facility improvements

Works to the existing football/cricket change rooms are now complete. The works included new universal bathrooms, with painting and new flooring.

The feedback from the Castlemaine Football Netball Club is that the rooms are much more functional and teams were appreciative of the upgrades when they played their season opener on Good Friday.

These works were funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) and Council. The LRCI Program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across the nation, supporting jobs and delivering benefits to local communities.

Next project update

The next project update will be provided in June 2024.
