How did this project come about?

In October 2023 Councillors voted to progress towards delivery of medium-density affordable housing on Council land at 30A and 65 Templeton Street, Castlemaine.

The decision was made after Council reviewed the results of an-depth community consultation period in which 81% of people supported the proposal.

Consultation activities included:

• An online (www.shape.mountalexander.vic.gov.au) poll: to understand community sentiment and draw out key concerns. Hard copy surveys were also supplied and received through the Civic Centre
• Neighbourhood door-knocking: to understand the views of directly impacted residents
• Responding to direct queries: following up with private face-to-face meetings or phone calls
• Traditional channels: receiving submissions through the post, email and phone calls.
